Opera America Leadership Intensive

The Leadership Intensive, OPERA America’s signature leadership development initiative, is a yearlong program for rising leaders in opera administration.

Chosen from a competitive pool of applicants, each annual cohort convenes at our National Opera Center for a week of seminars and trainings to advance their careers and establish strong professional connections. Throughout the subsequent year, participants come together at the annual conference and virtually to assess their growth and goals with expert faculty.

Established in 2012, the program’s alumni now lead 10 percent of our Professional Company Members.

Introducing Wagner’s epic Ring Cycle to Edmonton stages for the first time ever! Edmonton Opera presents Das Rheingold, the first opera of the 4 part epic saga in May 2024 to be followed in subsequent seasons by the other three operas. Experience the Jonathan Dove reduced version, defined as “Wagner re-imagined,” critically acclaimed as “imaginatively fresh” and “capturing the mighty essence of Wagner’s masterpiece.”

Postcards: Concert

Music reaches places deep within us. Inspired by family postcards dating from the Russian Revolution through WWII, Alan Stein has created artwork revealing real and imagined experiences in his grandparent’s lives. This concert features the music that came from the horrors of World War II and remains relevant today.

Postcards: Concert

Alan Stein was inspired by recently translated messages on old family postcards dating from the Russian Revolution through WWII to create a series of charcoal drawings and paintings highlighting actual and imagined events from his grandparent’s lives. These images, old family photographs, and reproductions of the postcards themselves, will be projected and accompanied by heartwarming Yiddish songs, profoundly moving children’s poems, and include music by Fritz Kreisler and Kurt Weill.

Opera Kelowna presents a double bill of Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi imagined as a traveling troupe of players coming to Kelowna in the early 1930s. Sung in Italian, with projected English translations. Performed with live orchestral ensemble.
